The existing transport infrastructure of Jaipur city was becoming inadequate on the back of rapid industrialization coupled with commercial development and growing population. The Rajasthan state government created a special purpose vehicle – Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited for implementing Jaipur metro project, on the lines of Delhi Metro. It is touted as one of the fastest built metro system in India and is first metro in India to run on double-storey elevated road and metro track.

Route Details

The metro will be built in two phases – Pink Line (Phase I) and Orange Line (Phase II). The Phase IA of the project stretching between Mansarovar to Chandpole covering distance of 9.63 kilometer has become operational. The 9 stations along the stretch include Mansarovar, New Atish Market, Vivek Vihar, Shyam Nagar, Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway Station, Sindhi Camp and Chandpole. The Phase IB stretching between Chandpole and Badi Chaupar will be operational by 2018. The Phase II, stretching 23.09 kilometers and consisting of 20 stations, will connect Sitapura Industrial Area in south with Ambabari in north and will be operation by 2021.

A Unified Metropolitan Authority (UMTA) has been set up to bring various public transport systems under a common umbrella and also to provide integrated fare and common ticketing facility.

Real Estate - Impact

The operational phase – Mansarovar to Chandpole is already a well-developed market in terms of social infrastructure and hence the metro has further resulted in appreciation of capital as well as rental values. The land prices along the corridor have also gone up, with developers purchasing large tracts of land to launch multi-storey residential projects in mid-income and high-income segment. Connecting the business hub - Chandpole with residential hub – Mansarovar, the operational phase of Jaipur metro has resulted in overall development of the influence zone. The completion of Phase IB is further expected to trigger the real estate development in the peripheral areas by linking them to the city center and other suburban areas.
