Government of French Republic bestows Mr Deepak Parekh with the title of Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honour.

 

Mrs Christine Legarde, Minister of Economic, Finance and Industry, Republic of France conferred the honour, Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honour (Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur) on Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman HDFC Limited and Lafarge India Private Limited on Tuesday, 7th December 2010 at Mumbai.

The French government bestowed the award on Mr Deepak Parekh in recognition of his contribution to the setting up of French firms in India. Through his various activities, he has enhanced the relations between France and India in the economic field and in the development of strategic partnerships between the two countries.

The French government confers several distinctions amongst which the Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest national distinction. The Order of the Legion of Honour was instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Born in 1944, Mr Deepak Parekh is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW). A banker by profession, he is on to be the unofficial crisis consultant to the Indian Government.

Mr Parekh is also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian honours bestowed by the Government of India.
