HDFC is a unique example of a housing finance company which has
demonstrated the viability of market-oriented housing finance in an
emerging country. It is viewed as an innovative institution and a market
leader in the housing finance sector in India. The World Bank considered
HDFC as a model private sector housing finance company for developing
countries.
HDFC offers technical assistance, consultancy services and training to a
number of housing finance players in the various parts of the world. HDFC’s
senior executives have been invited to several countries in Asia, Africa
and Europe for seminars and training assignments.
Every year HDFC conducts an international training programme ‘Housing
Finance Management’ at its training centre, Centre for Housing Finance,
located at Lonavla, India. Participants from different countries attend
this week-long residential training programme.
Since 2008, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and HDFC have jointly
organised the annual ‘Housing Finance Summer Academy’ in Germany. The
course aims to provide housing finance solutions for emerging markets
through a combination of academic knowledge and practical experience.
At the national level, HDFC executives have played a key role in
formulating national housing policies and strategies. Recognising HDFC’s
expertise, the Government of India has invited HDFC’s executives to join a
number of committees and task forces related to housing finance,
infrastructure development and capital markets.
