Maintaining light décor products and furnishings can seem like a daunting task, but it’s not really. Follow these easy tips to make your home spotless.

COVER IT UP

The best possible way to maintain white furniture and furnishings is by using plastic fabric covers. This helps to prevent dust and dirt to accumulate on the light coloured fabric. It also prevents staining. The covers on furniture also makes cleaning easier. The only condition here is that you must keep changing, replacing or washing the covers at regular intervals. The cover becomes dirty with time and if not changed,it starts looking dirty and stains the fabric below.

PROMPT ACTION

Check your light colour sofa for stains and dirt regularly. It need not be an elaborate process. Just a quick one-over might save you a lot of trouble later. If something pops out, deal with it immediately. Hot water with a mild liquid soap does the trick for stains most of the times, if one springs into action immediately. The trick is to use a white or a neutral cloth so that you don’t have to deal with bled out colours on your light coloured items. For stubborn stains, a solution of vinegar and baking soda can be used.

CLEAN AND CLEAR

Using dirt-repellent polish when dusting the décor products. This will prevent the dirt from settling in. Use a quality cleanser and muslin cloth to get the best results. For upholstery, do a quick wet cleaning method: Mix an upholstery shampoo according to the manufacturer’s instructions in a bowl. Put a small amount of the mixture with a sponge to create a thick, frothy foam. Wring out the sponge, leaving it damp but not dripping. Apply the foam to the upholstery in gentle circles. Blot excess foam and moisture with a clean, white towel. Let it dry.

SET RULES

Be very strict on certain points. Do not allow anyone to eat on the furniture. Any oil or food stain is very difficult to remove. Make sure that if you have light coloured sofas and settees, nobody should place their dirty feet on it.
